A report on the trees and hedgerows was carried out by John Dolwin in 1998. A total of 53 (mainly mature) trees were identified, including Oak, Ash, Field Maple, Holly, Western Red Cedar and Yew as well as various hedgerow species. Various young trees have been planted on the MG, mainly in groups. They include a group of 9 Black Poplar next to the reservoir in Lower Springfield, which were planted as part of a national scheme to try and preserve this endangered native species. One mature Oak close to the stream and located in Upper Springfield, was showing evidence of decay from a fungus following old fire damage at the base of the tree. This tree is still present.
